Well let's start holiday postings where we began, and that was our cottage. Only two and a half hours from home and such a quiet and peaceful place.
We arrived late afternoon having made various stops on the way. We were only just over a mile from the small market town of Aylsham where we could stock up on anything we wanted, yet in a place of complete silence and stillness.
The river opposite was a constant source of interest as Swans and Geese and many birds came to visit.
One evening a lone fisherman sat fishing for Trout.
View from the sitting room
and my bedroom
Mother Swan became nervous if I ventured too close and it is fascinating to see how she herded her signets away driving them into formation
watching them from the rear
Then came the Geese who could easily be coaxed out of the river if they knew they were going to be fed
They were still a little nervous though as some kept watch while others pecked away at the seed I had supplied them with
This cottage had everything one could need and more and was very modern and comfortable without losing it's 17th century cosiness.
Notice the beautiful handmade Afghan rug
We were very blessed with warm sunny weather for October so never needed to light the log burner (shame!)
as there were storage heaters in all the other rooms.
My bathroom had this wonderful antique dresser, the kind that would have held a large china jug and bowl in centuries past
I just loved the idea of having all my toiletries, make-up, and bits and pieces right where I needed them.
There were blue tooth radios in every room so having my favourite Classics on Classic FM was a bonus.
On arriving back to the cottage early one evening I just sat by the river listening to the sound of silence
on this old rustic bench
with the cottage behind us
The hospitality was good too.
We were greeted with a bowl of fruit, fabulous cookies, bottle of wine, milk and a pack of my favourite 'Taylors of Harrogate' filter coffee.
Not to mention a 6ft wide bed to myself with a memory foam mattress topping and Egyptian cotton bedding.
I guess you got the message - I loved this cottage.
To come - lots of photos from some of the many good places to visit nearby.
