6th May - A Day to be Thankful

6th May 2010. Today is the World Day of Prayer which also happens to be the day we went to the polls in this country. Thought by many to be the most crucial Election of all times. Certainly I have never known such media coverage nor such a sense of the church coming together in prayer to pray for our parliament and fast and interceed for a Godly out come.

My own church has been getting together to fast and pray and last evening had an amazing time in the Spirit during a time of praise and worship as we acknowledged the soverienty of God. How thankful I am to know that God is still in control and still on the throne no matter what the outcome and that we do not have to depend on anyone or anything but Him for our security. As darkness covers the earth so His light will shine brighter until the time when His light will totally swallow up the darkness. So thankful that we can stand in that. Our prayers go out to see Godly men and women in Parliament.

I was also thankful today to have my daughter Janie back in the country after a business trip to California. As the ash cloud started to move again and some westerly airports were closed in the country I so hoped that she would not be stranded as my son was recently in Spain, as although little Oliver and Rebekah were being looked after well by Daddy, they were looking forward to seeing Mummy again.

Something visual to finish - St. Clements, a church in my Borough that featured in the film "Four Weddings and a Funeral". This church is by the River Thames and here we were visiting it whilst out on a Ramble. In past centuries this church was a stopping off post for pilgrims on their way to Canterbury.

I appreciated this post as I was not even aware that you were having an election. You would think that would be national news here, too. All we've heard today is about the riots in Greece and the stock market plummeting 1000 points in about 20 minutes, and then rebounding back up to "just" a loss of 400 or so!!! Crazy world we live in. As you said, I'm thankful God is in control and I know HE holds not only my future but the very next beat of my heart and the breath in my lungs.

Amen to what you say about the sovereignty of God!

Next time I see Three Weddings and a Funeral I will pay closer attention to this church.

I'm so glad the ash cloud drifted in a different direction and Janie was able to fly home on schedule.

A sweet post. We're interested in your elections over here (in the US) as well, and it'll be interesting to see how things pan out.

Your picture and comment at the end of your entry made me think how travelers would always stop to pray for the journey. We too celebrate a National Day of Prayer here. Our government leaders need the prayers just as much now as they did then.

While I realize that a church building is just that- a building- I do love to see the churches that are still standing and being used for worship even after so many years, decades, centuries!

Barbara,

Oh, how much we need to pray daily that Our Heavenly Father will hear our cries...He said He would if we repent and pray... we have been given the remedy.

I totally agree that He is in complete control and not any man nor elected body of officials.

I'm glad Janie is safely home...Betty

It's good to hear that in pivotal times, people gather to pray. And glad to hear your Janie made it back safely.

Prayer for our leaders is so needed - and counseled in the Bible. The world is indeed full of darkness, but the light of Christ continues to shine.

That church is most interesting. It's Anglo Saxon, is it not?

This is certainly a remarkable election! I've been up all night watching the results come in, it's been so exciting! It is so comforting to know that God is in control of it all.

I was watching a program about how God dependent our founding fathers were. How much they relied on the sovereignty of God, and thanked Him for it.

As I pray for my country to turn its heart back to God, I will also stand in agreement with you for your nation to turn its heart back to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

These are interesting times for sure.

Well, the election 'result' does seem a bit inconclusive at present!
I'm too far out of the loop to really feel I'm in a position to have any opinions on it.

I was amused by Nick Clegg, when asked what he did in his spare time, replying that he hid from his family in the garden shed and smoked cigarettes. Sounds honest at least.....

A great treat, went to Herongate yesterday (in the same vile weather you had!). Pub lunch then to St.Nicholas churchyard, Ingrave, to say hello to my parents and brother in the rain.
Oddly comforting and cheering.

So glad all your family home safe after their travels.

We were very pleased with the results there. As you say, though, God is in control either way. I'm so glad that Janie is safely home without any troubles. She must've been eager to see the children, too.
