Arundells, Cathedral Close, Salisbury

Arundells in Cathedral Close was the home of the late Sir Edward Heath, Prime Minister from 1970-1974.
He served under Sir Winston Churchill and was leader of the Conservative party for 10 years.

We did not take a house tour as the times did not fit in with our travel schedule but we did walk around the garden

The above link gives lots of information and history and you can also take a mini house tour by clicking on the picture gallery

The back of the house is much prettier than the front

Imagine having a view of this beautiful cathedral every time one looks out of the window

Still 2 more posts to come on the close

So peaceful and serene.
And those rows of mowing on the lawn, such precision is a joy to see.

Lovely home and I thought it looked great from the front, but I see what you mean about the back having more interest. Beautiful gardens and grounds and I even enjoyed the mini-tour of the inside. It looks like a comfortable, attractive home.

The back is much prettier than the front, but it is gorgeous nonetheless. Those gardens look like a beautiful place to take a walk too.

Thank you so much for the camera information. I have done some price searching on the internet and will definitely be putting it on my gift list. It sounds wonderful and if your pictures are any indication I think I will be pleased with it.

I so enjoy reading your blog posts, especially the 'touring and history' ones. I'd always meant to visit England some day since my childhood but it never happenned...
Not sure why my fascination with England except, as a Canadian, we were quite connected to England. While I was a school girl, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth took place and it was all over our newspapers. And at school we switched from singing "God Save the King" to "God save the Queen." There was always a huge portrait of Queen Elizabeth hanging on the wall of our public school. So thanks for the pictures and history. Mary Horst

Oh Barbara, it was so sweet of you to come stroll through my old posts and comment. I always enjoy your tours of England. I'll never be able to visit all these places and it's so fun to visit them through your eyes. You're right about this particular house -- the back has much more interest and charm especially with that gorgeous gigantic rose gracing its walls.

I always enjoy your pictures. It is so nice as always to see places I will never be able to visit. I agree, the back of the house does have a prettier view. It's a cold wet day here in my part of the world, hope your day is a fantastic one!

To have the view of the cathedral so near would certainly be a dream come true! And having your wonderfully photographed personal tours is the next best thing.

Looks like something from a movie set. Can just imagine big gatherings out on the lawn, with everyone dressed in their finest, sipping tea from fine china cups.
Thank you Barbara, for sharing.
