Our 2018 Project

Our 2018 project. We got there in the end! Living on a hill our garage floor was two feet lower than the house. It has never been used as a garage (too small for modern cars) but has made a great store room since we moved here over 40 years ago.
It did not even have a door on when we moved here and Alan set about building a double door for security and having an integral door built into the hall for access.
As the garage door needed replacing again it seemed the right time to raise the floor and turn it into a 'proper' room.
Two of our dear friends took on the work and all Alan was left with was the painting.

October in the Garden Amongst Other Things

We have just had our house painted grey.

I have had grey on my mind for a long time and it had finally got to the point where we could leave it no longer as the old paint was peeling off in places.
Then suddenly everywhere we look houses are being painted grey.
It seems grey is a current popular colour not only for the outside of houses but also inside walls and furnishing.

The old garage door is soon to be completely renovated. We are having the wall bricked up and putting a window in and eventually a wooden floor. It's never been used as a garage but a very handy store room and part office.
So as we already have an integral door into the hall this change will make a big difference.

So, garden news - sadly we are in the process of destroying all of my Box shrubs that I have in pots.
They are suffering from Box Blight that is rife in the country.
I have nurtured them as topiary fro a very long time.

So empty pots abound. I am planning to plant four patio shrub roses in the four largest pots and have been re-potting my herbs into the smaller ones. It does not feel quite as bad if I can make good use of the pots.

The dreaded Box Blight

We are progressing with the removal of shrubs down the left hand side and hopefully it will not be too long before the area is turfed.
I'm looking forward to a lot less work next year.
I need to sort this before I hit 80!

On a lighter note a little colour from today's garden

Life has been hectic with indoor bathroom renovations, outside painting and re-planning the garden on top of general living but I do want to visit my blogging buddies to see what everyone has been up to recently.

Different Faces of Early Summer and Sudden Impulse in the Garden

It's calmer now, but where's the sun?

 Being watched

Having said that I would not be removing any more shrubs from my garden last year, on sudden impulse having pruned the back of these shrubs in order to be able to trim the the Eunonymous on the fence, I decided that there was still too much work involved in maintaining the garden as it was.
I there and then decided to remove all but the Dogwoods from this area and in their place plant more Dogwoods that were easy to maintain. Will work on this through the Summer with Alan's help and our son will dig out the roots when we get to that stage.

So there and then began

Before I could do anymore the weather changed which was just as well as the Sciatica certainly did not like it!

We had severe wind which the roses did not like

Nor some of the trees

and torrential rain

Before it settled down and I enjoyed these contrasts in colour

I'll sign out with Love amongst the roses and get back to Norfolk posting next.
Thank you to all who visit and comment, so appreciated and I need to catch up on commenting as I do so enjoy visiting my blogging buddies.

A Lot can Happen in a Month

Hi! everyone. It's over a month since I have posted but it has not been intentional.
Life has been somewhat overwhelming and busy though I have kept up with Facebook - just so easy and quick on my i-pad.
There have been/are a number of painful and difficult circumstances going on around me, not connected to me and my family personally, but affecting us personally. Also friends with serious medical issues.
Added to that we have been totally remodelling our main bathroom as the previous post shows.

Nearly there but not quite
Still some work to do around the window frames after all the plastering and a new door still to be installed

I want to add some artwork to this space over the bath and I love this cabinet over the basin which is fully mirrored inside and out making it great not only for make-up and cleansing storage but a mirror opened right there against the wall with everything to hand

Putting an old mirror behind the door which facing the cabinet mirror gives an infinity effect

Didn't include a shower as we have a shower bathroom next door
The only downside is that I would now like that room remodelled too!! We will see!

Just in case you had forgotten!!
I will be visiting, I have certainly missed your posts.

Watch This Space While Enjoying the Roses

I'm kind of winding down for the weekend before "All systems go" on Monday

Our separate bathroom and toilet are now one

Glad I have the roses to soothe me
Here are some images taken at 9.45 pm this week
