Celebrating our Queen's 90th Birthday in our Street.

Our church decided to organise a street party to celebrate our Queen's 90th birthday. Many from our church community live in this road and as we have quite a number of new neighbours this would be a good opportunity to get to know everyone.
The planning meetings were open to anyone who wanted to be involved at that level.

There was a cake competition which I had not planned to enter but changed my mind about 90 minutes before the party began thinking I could make some scones and work on a themed presentation of red, white and blue.

Alan and I in our red, white and blue attire.

We kicked off with a BBQ midday

when everyone began to congregate

Help yourself teas and coffees and cold drinks

Various stations around the street for different games for both old and young

Karen the main organiser on the left

Our member of Parliament has arrived and will be judging the cake competition

Our local Town Councillor on the left helping with the judging

Unexpectedly I was one of the winners

as was my friend Maria with a delicious Lemon Drizzle

Sarah enjoying a scone with strawberry jam and cream

The little ones playing pass the parcel

Face-painting

Children's poster competition

Seeing how many marbles can be dropped through the whole in 2 minutes

Large soft ball that will not break a window!

Two of our church worship leaders performing their comedy act

Now it is time to eat again with a bring and share feast
We have 7 different cultures in our road so the food was very varied

Last but not least, Sadie our 96 year old next door neighbour
Not everyone managed to attend as it is the holiday season but for  those that did many were saying we should make this a yearly event!
Must go now as it has gone 7.0 pm and we have to have the road open again by 8.0 pm.

That looks like a great street party. We had none this time around. Where we live we are all golden oldies now. No young families. Wen it was the Queen's Silver Jubilee we had a great party but we were a lot younger then! Glad you had a great time Barbara & wish I had been able to have one of your scones & some of Maria's lemon drizzle, it's my favourite!

what a lovely thing to do! It's not every day that The Queen turns 90. Looks as if Sadie is going to show her how to get on through one's 90s in style. Congrats on your win for the yummy looking scones!
