Wild Flowers on Two Tree Island

Let's backtrack to June of this year when Willow of 'Willow's Cottage' in California came and stayed with us, along with her husband. We began in the town with coffee and cookies and here we are walking on Two Tree Island in the Thames estuary. A rather blustery day but the wild flowers were out in abundance so I made it the focus of this visit. We had a great walk but in stopping to take pictures I managed to lose a lovely pair of sheepskin mittens. Yes, sheepskin mittens in June, that was the kind of Summer we had this year.

What is interesting is the fact that much of this area was burnt black when a fire raged through last year. How well nature renews itself.

We are now off to have lunch before window shopping around the town

Do you think modern children do "Nature Study" like we used to at primary school?
I really used to enjoy it and am shocked when modern children do not know rosebay willow herb and campion and so forth.
At the village flower show there was a children's category "6 different grasses in a jam jar"!
Super going for a walk with you as ever.

Love the picture of the two of you peeking out between the flowers. This is a pretty spot. Fire can provide wonderful nutrients for the soil or so I'm told. John is currently reading a lot of Henry Morris' work...founder of Creation Research ( http://www.icr.org/ ) Interesting stuff!

I htink we still were getting snow in June, here this year.

Those wildflowers are so pretty! It makes me wish we were going into summer instead of winter. I hate being cold.

This place is very beautiful and colorful. Hard to imagine that it was black from a fire not long before.

Thanks for sharing these pics Barbara. I love seeing pics of Summer in Winter and vice versa.

Although this post isn't Christmassy. I would like to share a little something with you as you do have the real christmas spirit.

Oh, Barbara,
just what one dreams of on a cold December night, a walk amongst wildflowers! Masterfully captures summer memories, thank you for sharing them with us, such a lovely thought!

As far as the tied up Christmas trees on my blog are concerned, I could not resist and added a caption, a bit tongue in cheek, though. *giggle*
