One Never Knows

One never knows what a day will bring. Such a true saying. I find that I can look at my calendar at the beginning of a new month, and apart from regular committments the rest can look like a clean sheet and I can think - "well there is not much on this month"

Fast forward to the end of the month and the clean sheet looks very different. I find that my life has been pretty full after all and there has just not been the time to do all the things I thought I might do. I am sure it is pretty much the same for most of us.

In looking back over just these last 2 weeks there has been the friend in bed with back problems who needed help, the elderly neighbours needing same, the Grandchildren unwell so having Bekah here for the day and visiting them at home and a couple of 'prayer walkers' coming to stay for bed and breakfast and a day visiting friends at the coast. None of these things were on my calendar, but all making up part of an interesting life where each day counts.

This morning found me nursing a sore throat, cough and headache and as I looked out on the garden the sun was shining. I was longing to get out in to the garden and continue with my pruning but just did not feel up to it. Come 1.30 pm the weather had changed so much that we were putting the lights on and I was glad to not be in the garden - one never knows!

However I do know that I have a long awaited wedding to attend on Saturday which I am looking forward to and which has been on the calendar for quite some time.

I have been watching the latest brilliant series (in my opinion) of Lark Rise to Candleford. The above set of DVD's is of the first series. I just assumed that the second series would be similar in content to the first and I was initially disappointed to find that it was not. Having reached almost the end of the series I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed it and wait eagerly for the next episode.
This later series has brought in many different characters and situations and one never knows what next week will bring. Obviously the writers thought they needed to move a little with the times and this they have done without losing the basic feel of rural life in the 1800's.

Larkrise is compulsive watching here, and however odd the episodes get, it retains the charm of the original, even if it has strayed!

I think I'll have to add these dvds to my netflix list.

Your final paragraph sent me on quite a little Google search. I was happy to ultimately land on a YouTube Christmas special, which I happily watched for the full time...nearly ten minutes! Oh the BBC does a masteful job with period pieces. I know that I would love this series, but I also know that it will be some little time before it is available here. Still, I can get the three books that the series is based upon. I hope.

Your plate has indeed been full. Sounds as if you've been playing nurse and keeping folks on an even keel. Do take care of yourselves, too. A gentle hug and a prayer coming your way...

I know exactly what you mean. The calendar can look so blank and then can fill up in a matter of moments. Guess it is best when we can roll merrily along not knowing what to expect.

We were so into the Upstairs Downstairs series and found that adding new characters was initially unsettling, but loved it in the long run. I will have to check out this one and see what it is all about.

I hope you are feeling better and recovered from your sore throat.

Like Willowknits, I'm going to see if these are available on Netflix! I can say I have read Larkrise to Candleford, Still Glides the Stream, and Country Calendar and loved them all.

I do hope you are feeling better soon. When Spring comes we do long to be outside, but the rainy, wet chilly days are also a part of it for sure. I read a quote somewhere that rainy days were made so we could get our house work done inside. I do agree we just never know what a new day will bring...

We keep our calendars from year to year. I am always surprised at how much I do. Take care and get rid of that nasty sore throat. Hot tea with lemon and a good book.

I hope you get feeling better. It always seems like the ailments hit us with a vengeance as if they don't want us to forget what it's like to be sick when spring comes.

I just started watching Lark Rise to Candleford reruns on PBS (without realizing they were reruns of last season) and I'm hooked. I want to go back and watch from the beginning now.

I'm curious...what are prayer walkers? We have prayer warriors here that pray for friends and family. Hope you are feeling better. I enjoy stopping by for a visit and someday hope to return to GB for another. ♥♪

Thanks for your kind comment today -

I haven't heard of this series - is it British? I might have to check it out.

We got a huge snow last night, but it is melting quickly. The flowers should spring up now, and the grass should be very green.

Thanks for coming over to visit and the kind comment.

I haven't heard of that series - is it British?

We had a huge snow storm last night, but it is sunny and melting very quickly. Should make the flowers really come out when it warms up tomorrow. Crazy Colorado!

Btw, hope you feel better soon AND that we both get a good night's sleep!

I have the books on my "soon to read" stack.

I've heard the BBC series is only loosely based on them but I watched the Christmas clip and it looked charming.

Barbara, I am having blogging problems. I lost all my list of blogs. Found them on a site by themselves, got some of them back, can't even get my photo to show up when I click on to become a follower. I am slowing must adding things manually back in. Don't know where they are really. Thanks for stopping by and hope you get thing settled.

Hello Barbara.....

I’m an avid follower of Lark Rise too.... it is quite delightful and it has been such a pleasure to watch a series that you know will contain no swearing and violence.

The big question..... will Laura choose Daniel or Fisher?... I hope Daniel... he seems more suited and has already fitted into village life.

I am so pleased that in the latest series Minnie has been given a more prominent role.... isn’t she adorable, despite the havoc she causes and her dreamy attitude towards life..... how I love her pretty and expressive face.

Last episode on Sunday, is definitely marked on my calendar. Marion

Sorry to hear you are unwell Barbara. I hope you get better soon.

I loved the Larkrise book I read it about the same time as Laurie Lee to learn about a local area as it used to be. Fascinating.

I have a To Do List which keeps me on the straight and narrow in terms of project making- I am so ditsy without it. :-) Housework is now operating on a similar list system as I have to alternate between sitting down crafting and being able to do housework because of my back. Physio all organised now. Maybe a goal for the month might help you?

I am expecting the Candleford books by Flora Thompson any day now from Amazon. I am glad there's a DVD series to look forward to once I've read the books. Our local library offers so many great BBC productions on DVD... our most recent one to watch was George Eliot's Adam Bede. So sorry to hear you're not well. I pray it is a passing thing.

Blessings,
Christi

I just bought the books of Lark Rise to Candleford. I was given the DVDs for Christmas, and I'm holding off watching them until I've read the books - I'm really looking forward to both, they sound charming!

Barbara,
Sorry you'be been under the weather. I've had similiar aches...

Marion brought the Lark Rise to Candleford series to my attention and I plan to order the DVD's...we see many classics on Masterpiece Theater on Public TV and I wish Lark Rise would be featured.

Thank you for the picture...my husband agrees that you and my longtime friend, Jackie, bear resemblance...

Blessings,
Betty

Barbara, you certainly hit a chord with the mention of Lark Rise to Candleford. I've only seen snatches of it from time to time but know it would be "my kind" of entertainment.

Trust and pray you are feeling better. I know how those calendar days can fill up and I'm learning to relax and enjoy the days He has planned for me!
