Returning From the Hunt

Not a scene that we see these days, the local Hunt returning. Fox Hunting has been banned for a few years now. This was the traditional English scene that we met while out walking in our local countryside a few years ago. Without getting into the politics of this sport, it was always good for a photo opportunity, especially when caught galloping across the fields.

Hi dear Barbara,
I am not a fan of fox hunting, but your pictures are lovely and evokes that traditional English feeling.

Days I remember oh so well...
Gratefully, I never participated in the live "hunt", but did spend weekends on hunt courses, with "drag hunts".
It's a blessing we have moved away from such cruelty.

I always love your pictures.

Did I see a Dr. Who phone booth? Ha! HA! I love that show.

I must say the hunt looks wonderful
like you, I'm not about to go into the politics and social side of it.
Still bitterely cold here!

It's interesting to see actual photographs of an event that I have read about so many times in so many novels! Love that red coat!

I think the pictures are very unique and unusual. You do not see this in the USA. The costumes, the beautiful dogs. Artists have painted this scene often and writers have written about it. I am so glad you shared. It is part of history.

How special to see a Fox Hunt. Hope the water will not rot your rose roots.

I think it's good to have such things recorded in photos. It is history -one we are living through- the ban and increased laws for animal protection.

So majestic.

Barbara,
I feel very much for the fox...I think just the hunters decked out in their hunting gear and the dogs would be enough...

I have a large painting called 'Run to Earth' hanging in our 'English Red' dining room that I enjoy looking at.

Thanks for the visit and kind comment.

Snow has once again been forecasted for Saturday...that would be a record....

Blessings...Betty

Sadly Barbara those days are not gone and hunts are still killing foxes albeit illegally, they merely put it down to an "accident" while exercising their dogs. I absolutely hate hunting but can see that some people enjoy the pageantry of the dressing up, the horses and the dogs so I honestly can't see why those people can't stick to drag hunting, as mentioned by "A Brit in Tennessee. If it weren't for the killing of desperate wild animals I think a lot more people would look kindly on hunting.
Best regards to all from another Barbara

Hi Barbara,

Am so interested to hear about your Genesis study - that will certainly bring out new information. Do let me know of any recommended reading that you know of. I'm using the NIV study Bible and also looked at a few passages from the Companion Bible. I'm on Ch19-24 this week.

Hope all well with you, I am about to catch up with your blog.

PS - I'm back again! have been looking at The Torah site but can't find where you got your study notes from...are they available to purchase from the site or by contact only? Hope you can help. Thanks, Annie

How neat to see that and get some photos. Hasn't the weather been strange this year? I've never seen so much snow in Paris. I'm looking forward to summer.

Wow, I've never actually seen a hunt. I'm glad it has been banned, but I hope they still go drag hunting - it looks like quite a spectacle!

I noticed one hunter on his cell phone...you certainly never saw that in the days of yore!

Love that you included the red phone booth too.

Beautiful shots of the English countryside. My brother lives in Manchester and we were privileged to visit him (way too long ago) and tour around the small villages - so beautiful. I need to get back over there again!

Thanks for stopping by my Show and Tell!

I won't say whether I'm a fan of fox hunting, but I certainly do love the photos and know a home where fox hunting paintings are featured prominently. Love those old paintings of the English countryside and the charming riding gear and the beautiful horses and the dogs in pursuit...yup, even the fox is kinda cute.

Two things that shout "England" in my (inexperienced in reality) mind: fox hunting and that red telephone booth (box?)! How many beautiful paintings I have seen of fox hunters in red coats and black jodhpurs. Lovely shots!

Blessings,

Dear Barbara,
Lovely post. I would really like so see that. Is that phone booth for sale. lol I love it..
Those were elegant times. Except the guys that just kill birds they won't eat for the sport.
