Whatever Next?

Late Sunday afternoon just after dark the doorbell rang and I could see through the glass that it was a policeman. I knew the children were OK as I had just talked to them on the phone. The things that go through ones mind in those few seconds.

As I opened the door he was halfway down my hall before he had finished asking if he could search my back garden. Apparently a neighbour had reported seeing 2 guys jumping fences between gardens. The Police were taking this seriously as apparently there has been a lot of burglary's in my area (first I had heard)and they were entering properties from the back gardens just after dark and looking for all those extras in houses due to Christmas, particularly jewellery. We will be keeping the back door locked as soon as it gets dark from now on.

Interestingly we had a similar situation some years ago when someone had been stabbed in a fight and the back gardens were used as an escape route. My next door neighbour opened her back door to be confronted by a man covered in blood. We are normally a pretty quiet neighbourhood where the most annoying things are car and house alarms and sometimes late night/early morning parties!

And now I have a confession to make - I have joined Facebook. Always said I would not but not wanting to miss the videos posted by a particular friend in the US I took the plunge. Apart from being amazed at the number of people I know, and may not have seen for decades, there are all my nephews and neices from Australia whom I have never seen, and their children plus other distant relatives. However much this interests me I really do not want my blog to suffer as a result.

So what else is new this December? Saturday 19th we are celebrating our Golden Wedding. When I think of it I have to say that it sounds silly, Golden Wedding - that's 50 years! And yes it is, but where did all those years go. Those years have been very full and interesting, exciting and traumatic and everything in between but looking back they seem to have flown by.

The wonderful part about our celebration is that all we have to do is attend, my daughter Janie is planning it all and both she and our son Peter are paying for it.How fantastic is that!

Hi dear Barbara,
I just have to congratulate you for your 50th wedding anniversary! Nowadays is so difficult to see couples remaining married for so long. My warmest wishes of a Happy Anniversary and many more years of love to come to you both.

Congratulations on a very important anniversary! We will be celebrating our 30th on 22nd Dec.

I can imagine your fear when confronted by a policeman at the door, so many horrors go through your mind.

That was very scary having the police come in like that. I hope you all remain safe. Maybe they will leave it they know police are watching the area. Happy anniversary to you! What a great celebration you will have.

What a fright I'm sure!

Congratulations on your 50th -- we just celebrated our 40th. Considering we live longer there are fewer and fewer of the big anniversaries.

on the Golden Anniversary .
How wonderful you have such a
caring family.
Every Christmas crime goes up. You have to be the scum of the earth to steal at Christmas.
Have fun on Face book. I am still learning this stuff.
We had 8 inches of snow here.
Enjoy your DAY! fondly yvonne

Congratulations to both of you, Barbara. Fifty years together is just fabulous. The years do just fly by, don't they? I know the party will be fabulous and, yes, how nice to just have to show up!!

It's a little disturbing to think about someone in your back garden. We had that happen in our old house only the police were chasing them over the fence. They did eventually catch them as they dropped bits and pieces trying to escape.

Best wishes for your anniversary and may you have many wonderful years to come. It's amazing how quickly time passes and who life changes through the years.

I've resisted Facebook so far but everyone I know seems to be there. But, there's only so much time in the day and I'm already looking for more.

Congratulations to you and Alan on your 50 years of marriage. That is a major accomplishment these days and something wonderful indeed. Enjoy your celebration!

So you've joined Facebook...if I had not deactivated my Facebook page last month I'd send you a friend request! I was only on FB for a few months and did find lots of people I know, but it seemed most of them were into those FB games and not much else. In the end, I had to make a choice and decided to devote my computer time to the blog instead.

We all hope, of course, that you will keep on blogging!

Happy Wedding Anniversary!
All my best wishes to you and Alan.
This is some achievement. Ruby wedding next stop I think (is that 60 years?)
I never quite took to Facebook but certainly it could be interesting.
Always a little alarming when the police come calling.....Oddly, I think nowadays New York is more peaceful than England.

Congratulations on reaching 50 years of marriage! That's something that's becoming more and more uncommon these days. I'm on FaceBook, too, and would love to connect with you. My son talked me into joining so I could stay connected with him when he travels. Now I have reconnected with a number of friends from the past and it's such fun to share bits and pieces of our lives and see photos. Hope I can find you at FB. ~Adrienne~

Thanks for the comment on my blog Barbara - yes, I'm excited. And great congratulations to you both on the wedding anniversary - how is it we live opposite each other and I've only just heard?

Anyway, another confession - it was me that reported the burglars to the police! Someone else may have done so later but they jumped over my neighbour's gate first. So, sorry if it scared you - but it's better to be warned, eh?

Bless for your anniversary!
Jane xx
