The Village of Burwash in West Sussex

You will remember my recent visit to Bateman's, the home of Ruyard Kipling. If you look along the road to the left of this first photo, then a little along to the left is the turning to Kipling's home. As we were leaving I stopped to take some photos in the village of Burwash (his local village) as the houses, bungalows and businesses are so interesting and varied. A friend of mine had his childhood home in this village. He is an excellent writer and poet. I wonder if he was influenced by Kipling at all.

As we walk along the main street we will be looking back and forth to both sides of the road.
Having done a post on 'doors' recently I got to noticing that this village has more different types of door than I think I have ever seen in one street. It is tempting to stop and photo every door but we have so much more to fit in today.

    A lovely village. It's completely charming and I'm sure that the community takes pride in its appearance. I found the white house with the blue shutters particularly striking. The home with the aqua door is very like one that anyone might see in the seaside communities here. Thanks for the tour, Barbara! Where are you off to next?

    Hi Barbara! Re your comment: Buttered toast sounds really good to me right now....I think it would go perfectly with the salmon salad!

    I really enjoyed this stroll through the village. The style of the homes is so unusual to me, I think it's the way the upper story is extended just slightly and also a different color and texture from the ground floor on most of the houses. And those slate roofs too. It's all so pretty. I had a great time looking at the photos in large format.

    What a quaint little village. I noticed that everything looks so CLEAN. I barely saw anyone walking around either. They were probobly looking out the windows of their houses wondering who is this woman taking all these pictures :)

    Another storybook village. Everything so neat and tidy, such pride of ownership evident everywhere....it would be a joy to walk along these streets, pausing to admire doors, gardens, even the street itself, paved such as it is. You are my designated travel agent!

    You make me want to come and walk the streets with you in person! Such wonderful photos. My favorite is the one with the grey door and topiaries either side. I love the washed color of the timber... so soft and welcoming.
