The Village of Finchingfield in Essex

Having seen Willow and I outside the tearooms in Finchingfield in the last post, I invite you to stroll with us around this beautiful village, just 30 miles from our home, and take in the lovely and quaint cottages around thie village green. Unfortunately the village pond has been emptied for maintenance work on the walls. Apart from that, it is immaculate.

    Oh I love to see pictures like this. Everything so tidy and well kept....like a storybook. The windmill makes it look like Holland! And the ducks waddling across the lawn....so darling. I also like the unexpected splashes of colour, like that blue-painted house. The best of their kind, these pics...

    Charming village...I clicked on a number of the photos and just oohed and ahhhed over the window boxes. I love them and always am delighted to see the colors and combinations. They put mine to shame that's for certain!

    You know Barbara, as I stroll through this charming village, I wonder if the people who live there know how lucky they are. As I travel with various of my Brit/Euro friends, I am amazed at how normal and commonplace these villages seem. Even neighborhoods
    in some cities have a charm that seems to only come from the timelessness of the place. When I saw the For Sale sign, I wanted to jump on the next plane out and become a part of the landscape of this beautiful place.

    I love the white quaint buildings...and the poor duck. The geese on "my" large pond have all left. Sad, but there is a crane that comes now and then.

    I'd say Finchingfield is the definition of charming and quaint... with those thatched roofs, etc. I see by the clock on the church tower you walked around there at least 90 minutes. The facade of the Fox Inn is fascinating -- looking closely I see many different patterns - was that brick that was painted over?

    I enjoyed this tour very much!

    It is all so lovely. If that is a little cottage for sale, hubby and I could be quite happy there! The grass is so green I just want to walk around barefooted in it! Loved the windmill too. Thanks for sharing your pics!
